This is interesting that they are now going to require it on homes built in Hawaii starting in 2010. They estimate that they currently have 20 percent of all homes are doing this now.
The one question that immediately comes to mind is, that not every home’s location is suitable for solar power. The location of some homes may make this very inefficient negating the desired effect they are seeking law.
During the seventies oil crisis my parents installed just such a system on their home in New Mexico. The unit still runs today, with the advances in technology the systems today should be even more efficient.
