Coal
Just the image of it implies dirty air! Yet, according to the U.S. Department of Energy it is one measure of energy strength of the United States, with one quarter of the worlds reserves found here.
Coal was formed eons ago from layer upon layer of plant remains, essentially what we are doing today with biomass energy production. The major difference is, with biomass we are extracting carbon dioxide from the air, and placing it back into the atmosphere when it is converted to energy.
Coal; on the other hand, has trapped carbon dioxide millions of years ago, removing it from earth’s atmosphere. No doubt, this had a dramatic effect on the development of the planet.
When it comes to generating electricity coal is the largest producer worldwide. And over time we will be able to reduce this amount with the use of alternative energy solutions like; Wind Power, Solar Power, Tidal Power, Geothermal Power, and other technologies yet to be introduced.
